Access Statement for Moss Wood Caravan Park

Moss Wood Caravan Park - Access for All

Introduction to Moss Wood Caravan Park

Moss Wood is a quiet and peaceful holiday park and a beautiful home from home for our guests. Sitting in the beautiful North Lancashire countryside, we have over 140 privately owned static caravan holiday homes. Hiring out holiday homes is not permitted, giving the park a community feel. For touring caravans and motorhomes we have 31 hard standing pitches, all with water and electric hook ups. Moss Wood has a modern and well-kept toilet and shower block, with laundry facilities, a children’s play area, a well-stocked course fishing lake, woodland walk, and an open playing field.

Moss Wood Caravan Park strives to ensure that all guests and visitors can enjoy the facilities in the park. Our aim is to help you in any way we can and if you require any assistance during your stay or whilst planning your visit, we will be delighted to offer our services.

Location & Arrival

There are several ways to contact Moss Wood Caravan Park, listed in the contact section of this statement.

On arrival to the park there is a fairly short, steep decline after the entrance barrier which levels out after around 15m in front of the reception. The reception is situated by the entrance and is clearly visible from the entrance barrier. The barrier is automated between 8am and 8pm, outside of these hours access is gained by using a keypad using a numeric code which was either self-selected (static holiday home owners) or randomly generated and provided on arrival (tourers).

A car park with space for 22 cars is available outside reception on a level, firm surface.

A 5mph speed restriction is in place across the park.

Our pitches are all hard-standing and offer parking adjacent to the pitch. All pitches are equally accessible to wheelchair users as the terrain is flat. If an indication is given whilst booking that there is a possible need, guests will be offered the chance to book a pitch nearest the shower and toilet block. If a pitch nearby is not occupied at the time, this offer will be repeated upon the guest’s arrival.

Keys to the disabled toilet/shower room will be issued on arrival. A £10 deposit will be required which is refunded on return of the key at the end of the guests’ stay.

The nearest bus stop is 1.5 miles from reception opposite Marsh Close, on Marsh Lane, back down Crimbles Lane from Moss Wood Caravan Park.

The nearest village is Cockerham which is 2 miles from the Park.

There is no formal post box on site, but post can be left with reception where mail is collected for delivery once per day Monday to Friday.

Taxis can be booked from reception.

Reception & Shop

Access to the combined reception and shop is from the tarmac road by the main entrance with both steps and a ramp to the door. The door is usually left open during opening hours, but a staff member is always nearby to assist if the door is closed for any reason (poor weather etc). There is a slight threshold at the base of the door, but this is navigable by wheelchair. The door can open as a double door if required providing a large space to accommodate access to even the largest of wheelchairs or mobility scooters.

Once inside the building, there is ample room to manoeuvre a wheelchair around the shop to the counter which is XXcm high. There is a door immediately next to the till and counter allowing for staff to easily assist any guests who may be unable to access the counter. The reception and shop is well lit.

Public Areas – WC and Laundry

The park has one toilet block situated next to the touring area, in the same building as the laundrette. The laundrette is in a confined space but has enough room to turn a wheelchair. Access is through a standard width non-automatic door with a threshold which may require assistance to get a wheelchair over depending on the chair and users’ level of mobility. There is a ramp to the level of the door.

The equipment is front loading and easily accessible from a seating position, however the coin mechanism is positioned on top and towards the rear which may place it out of reach of some users operating from a seated position.

Outdoor Facilities

Moss Wood has a well-equipped children’s play area which is sited in the centre of the touring pitches. The surface of the play area is grass, AstroTurf and bark in places. The area contains a slide, climbing frame, and various obstacles.

Customers are free to walk through both the touring caravan and static caravan parts of the park. Wheelchair users should be aware that some roads on site are loose gravel.

Access to the Woodland Walk is through a chicane to prevent horses, however this may also prevent some wheelchairs from fitting through. The Woodland Walk is flat and the path is compacted dirt which should usually be usable by a wheelchair, but we would recommend having someone available to assist.

The Fishing Lake is accessed over grass which may require assistance. We would recommend caution and an able bodied assistant around the lake due to the uneven surface by the water.

Dogs are welcome at the park and can walk around the grounds, however we ask that they are kept on a lead except on the playing field. Dogs must be kept under control at all times for the safety of all our guests. Dog waste may be deposited in any litter bin on site provided it is bagged.

Caravans & Holiday Homes

Static Caravan Holiday Homes on the park are supplied with a three concrete step set with a hand rail on one side. One vehicle may be parked by each caravan.

Specialist Holiday Homes from various manufacturers can be brought in to suit the specific demands and access requirements of customers. In most cases it is possible for ramps to be installed to aid access if required. Staff can advise on what we have to offer when contacted.

Waste and recycling bins are located by reception, by the toilet and shower block and by the workshop towards the centre of the park.

Touring Facilities

We offer touring caravan pitches on a level hard standing pitch. There is ample room to park vehicles. Water stand taps are available on the touring area. There is a liquid waste disposal point next to the toilet and shower block. There is also a washing up area.
