The SkyView app is really handy and has plenty of features that even complete novices can enjoy. It’s an excellent tool for learning more about space and is suited to children as well as adults. Simply point your phone to the sky and aim it any stars you would like to know more about. The app will give you more information on galaxies, stars and satellites passing over your location.

With the summer season drawing to an end, we thought we’d take a moment look back on the last year. The summer of 2021 is one of the busiest we’ve experienced and our team have worked tremendously hard.

It’s been so lovely to welcome visitors new and returning back to Moss Wood after such a difficult period. We’ve enjoyed seeing the park come back to life and it’s been wonderful to be a part of people’s well-deserved breaks.

During this challenging time our staff have worked their socks off to deliver first class service. We’re so proud of the way they’ve conducted themselves, and if our online reviews are anything to go by, their commitment hasn’t gone unnoticed by our guests.

Well-maintained grounds

Our dedicated groundskeeping team work hard to ensure the grounds are well-maintained. We’re constantly reinvesting in the park and looking for ways we can expand our offering. Over the winter we try to make improvements so there’s always something new to see in spring. Upgrades are always well received by our guests, who commend the high standards of our facilities and touring pitches.

One of the things that really sets Moss Wood apart from the crowd is the beautiful floral displays we have around the park. Touring pitches

Many of our touring guests return year on year to make the most of our 5-star touring pitches and facilities. All are pitches are spacious, level and fully serviced with electric hook up, water and drainage.

Each pitch is situated in a sheltered position on the park with a grass surround, ideal for dining outside or soaking up the sun. Many of our pitches have a stunning outlook with views over our private coarse fishing lake.

Our on-site facilities are a real hit with visitors of all ages. We’re proud to have a variety of things to do on site, with plenty to keep the whole family entertained. At Moss Wood we’re huge proponents of spending time with your loved ones in the great outdoors. This means we shy away from organised entertainment in favour of simple activities and events that focus on nature.

One of our major selling points is our nature trail and woodland walk, where you may be lucky to spot some of our local wildlife. Past guests have spotted numerous species of butterflies, bees, birds, deer and even red squirrels! We also have a private fishing lake that is well stocked with carp, tench, roach and rudd. For the children there are two outdoor adventure play parks and even a trust library if you need something to keep you busy on a rainy day.

Our touring guests are always impressed with our modern amenities block with toilets, showers and baby change facilities. These are cleaned at regular intervals throughout the day.

Wildlife watching

Our Lancashire caravan park is a haven for wildlife and we go to great lengths to ensure we create habitats for wildlife to thrive and flourish. We’re a part of a number of national initiatives, such as the David Bellamy Conservation scheme and we work closely with the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.

We often welcome experts onto the park to educate our visitors in addition to the information boards we have dotted around the site. In previous years we’ve hosted guided bat walks and stargazing events.

Across Moss Wood, both static caravans and touring caravans were decorated in red with guests dressing up in red too – all in the name of raising money for charity! Excitement was high as the winner would win a prize of a weekend away in one the luxury glamping hideaway pods at the beautiful Skelwith Fold Caravan Park, a prize worth £255!

It’s really important to keep your caravan and motorhome well maintained so that it doesn’t develop any problems, especially over winter. This includes routine checks of the tyres, electrical connections, appliances and water hoses. The investment you have made is worth protecting so you can get the most amount of time as possible using your tourer, which means more family holidays to Moss Wood Caravan Park! Before your embark on your first trip of the season or after any period when your caravan has been sat idle for an extended period of time, we highly recommend carrying out these maintenance checks.

Tyres

The first thing to check are the tyres on your caravan or motorhome, which can easily go down if not properly monitored. This is essential before any long journey, as no holidaymaker wants to have to pump up a deflated tyre on the hard shoulder, especially in a vehicle the size of a caravan or motorhome.

Along with ensuring the right tyre pressure in your caravan’s tyres (check the handbook or ask the seller for an accurate pressure), it is also best to adjust the pressure in your car rear tyres to compensate for the additional load. This generally means increasing the psi from 4 to 7, so it can adequately take a ‘fully laden’ pressure.

Electrical Connections

Electrical connections will differ between caravan and motor home, since there will be many more to consider with a caravan, which should be connected securely to the vehicle towing it. This external electrical connection can be easily tested by checking that the brake lights and turning signals are operational when connected to the towing vehicle.

Internal electrical connections on the other hand consist of lights, plug sockets and any other Appliances that utilise power inside the tourer. For lights make sure there aren’t any faulty bulbs and replace any fuses that may have gone.

Appliances

Generally, in a caravan or motorhome you will have a small selection of appliances to check alongside any electrical connections, including the gas hob, fridge, freezer and electric shower. It’s worth ensuring that all of these appliances are in perfect working order before setting out on the road, as the last thing you want is a faulty hob or a fridge that doesn’t work.

For the individual appliances you may have to check several different things. For the gas hob, simply make sure you don’t need to just refill the gas canister. For the fridge and freezer, make sure it doesn’t just need plugging in or it hasn’t been left open. If they are simply not working, then appliances may need expert maintenance instead.

 Water Hoses

Usually water is used for smaller jobs in a caravan or motorhome, such as washing the dishes, using the toilet or even taking a shower, if you have a large water tank. There might sometimes be excess oxygen in the pipe that might make the taps splutter, or it may not work at all, either way you will need to check that there isn’t a blockage or leak somewhere in the pipe.

Check all the taps are working, as well as the hot water, which will indicate if the water heater is working or not. If it isn’t, the water heater may need to be examined or replaced by an expert.
