Moss Wood is a tree lined holiday and touring caravan park located near the coast in open countryside predominantly dairy farming area just six miles south of Lancaster in the South West corner of Morecambe Bay. It is licenced for 168 static holiday caravans and 21 touring caravans and the park is open from the 1st March to 31st October annually. Caravans may only be used for holiday purposes and sub-letting is not allowed.
Location and arrival
There are several ways to contact the park, listed in the contact section of this statement.
Access to the park is 1 mile south on Crimbles Lane which, in places can be narrow but there are passing places and the locals are quite used to the movement of large vehicles so there is no need to worry. An advanced warning sign is located half way down the lane after the intersection of Gulf Lane stating 700yds to go. Shortly after passing that you will see our woodland on your right hand side.
On arrival to the park you will see our entrance sign on your right and a barrier, the barrier is automated so just drive slowly up to it and it will open.
Reception is clearly signposted on right at the bottom of the hill.
There is a visitor car park just passed reception which can take up to 25 cars.
A 10 mph speed restriction is in place around the park.
Access to our touring pitches via a gravelled road and all pitches are hard-standing and offer parking adjacent to the pitch. Pitches are available close to the Amenity Block for the disabled or those with mobility difficulties.
The park is predominantly flat and wheelchair users should not find much difficulty in transiting the park. Our Reception is accessible and our staff will be happy to accommodate any additional needs you may have.
Keys to the disabled toilet/shower room will be issued on arrival if needed.
The nearest bus stop is over a mile away so visitors with reduced mobility will ideally need their own transport.
The nearest village Cockerham is 1.5 miles from the park.
Post can be left at reception for collection by Royal Mail.
The nearest Taxi firm is Garstang which is 5 miles away however they do cover this area taxis can also be booked from Lancaster.
Main entrance, Reception and Shop
Access to Reception is directly from the entrance road and has a ramp to the entrance. The doors may be opened double-width to accommodate larger mobility scooters or wheelchairs if required and staff are trained to provide any further assistance if necessary.
Public Areas – General
In emergency situations only the Duty Wardens can be called out via the main phone number number. Out of hours, the wardens are located in their accommodation opposite reception.
There is a defibrillator on the park for emergency use. Only use this upon direction by emergency operators after calling 999.
All our signage is clear with dark green back ground and bold light gold letters, with all fire signs and assembly point signs to regulation specification.
Public Areas – WC, Laundry,
The park has one toilet block which is situated adjacent to the touring area. This includes disabled facilities with both a restroom and wetroom.
The Laundry room is suitable for wheelchair users, access to the room is via a ramp. Machines are all at an accessible height.
Internet access is available with 1Gb free per week, or you can pay for more service, but as with most internet in rural areas the bandwidth is low and this can lead to a disappointing experience, especially at busy time. Many customers recommend the use of a ‘dongle’ from either Three, O2, Vodafone or EE for more reliable internet connections.
Outdoor Facilities, Grounds and Gardens
The park has two well-equipped children’s play area, one of which is sited in the middle of the touring area and the other near the park entrance. Both have slides, climbing frames and other traverse equipment.
There is also a four acre, tree lined recreational field for ball games, kite flying and other games behind Reception. There is also an outdoor table tennis table which is free to use, and equipment can be loaned from Reception for a returnable deposit.
Customers are free to walk through both the Touring and Static parts of the park. Wheelchair users should be aware of some loose gravel. Access to the wood chipped surfaced woodland areas may be unsuitable for wheelchair users or those who have difficulty walking with care.
Litter bins and dog waste bins are located all around the park.
Dogs are welcome at the park and can walk around the grounds and woodland areas, however they should be kept on a lead.
Holiday Homes
Static Holiday Homes (caravans) on the park are supplied with a 3 concrete step set with hand rail on one side. Ramps can be provided on many pitches on arrangement when purchasing the holiday home.
Vehicle parking for one vehicle is allocated on each pitch next to the unit. Additional vehicles are requested to park in the car park by Reception.
Specialist Holiday Homes from various manufacturers can be brought in to suit the specific demands and access requirements of customers. Staff can advise on what we have to offer when contacted.
Dustbin, recycling and fire points are located throughout the park.
Touring Facilities
We offer Touring Caravan Pitches on a level hard standing pitch.
There is ample room to park vehicles.
Water stand taps, grey water drainage and electricity points are located at the rear of each pitch.
Additional Information
Payment of accounts can be made either by cash or cheque in person, or by card over the phone or by our secure portal via our website.
Basic first aid training has been completed by some staff members.
Assistance and advice is always on hand.
