Things to do in St Annes
Exploring the seaside town of St Annes in Lancashire
St Annes is a pretty seaside resort less than an hour’s drive from Moss Wood Caravan Park. Much quieter than neighbouring Blackpool, it is a firm favourite with families and couples visiting the area thanks to its long sandy beach, beautiful gardens and traditional seafront attractions.
St Annes beach
The golden beach attracts visitors in their droves each year. While away a couple of hours in the sunshine, building sandcastles or paddling in the sea. If you want a little bit of luxury whist visiting the coast, why not hire one of the St Annes beach huts for the day? These award-winning pastel huts are decorated in a quirky style and contain a kitchenette with microwave and seating area for your comfort.
In between the promenade and the beach, you’ll find the sand dunes for which St Annes is famed. The dunes form a natural sea defence and serve as an important habitat for a range of wildlife, including butterflies, bees, birds and lizards. From the top you can enjoy views over the River Ribble and watch the spectacular sunset at the end of the day.
St Annes beach has a large tidal range, which means there is a vast area to explore at low water. Always be careful when venturing far from the promenade, the tide comes in quickly and it’s easy to get caught out.
Victorian pier
Once you’ve finished on the beach, we suggest heading to St Annes pier. Walk to the end of the walkway to take admire the scenery, or treat yourself to a delicious ice cream and fish and chips from one of the many kiosks at the entrance. On a clear day you can see all the way to North Wales!
Seafront Gardens
The Promenade Gardens are the jewel in St Annes crown. They cover a large area close to the seafront and provide visitors with space to relax and watch the world go by. There are a variety of well-maintained floral displays and attractive landscaping on display. There are also ornamental water features as well as bandstand, children’s paddling pool and rockery.
Family friendly attractions
There are plenty of family friendly attractions in St Annes to keep children entertained during your holiday in Lancashire. In the promenade gardens you’ll find pitch and putt, splash outdoor water play area and a café set within a train carriage.
For little ones that like nature and the outdoors, head to the southern end of the promenade. Here you’ll find a number of shallow ponds with half submerged stepping stones that you can walk across and test your balance. For the more adventurous there’s even a waterfall that you can walk behind.
Further along the prom, Fairhaven Lake is a must visit for families with young children. There are a variety of water-based activities on offer here including pedallos, floating trampolines and rowing boats for hire. There’s also spitfire memorial, which showcases a life-sized replica perched high up in the air.
