Lancashire Cycleway

The Lancashire Cycleway is an acclaimed cycling trail, consisting of two 130-mile loops. It can be completed as a long distance endurance ride or split into smaller more manageable sections to be tackled over multiple days (or even weeks!).

Lancaster is an ideal starting point, particularly if you’re taking on the the northern route. The northern route showcases some of the best of the north west, including the Forest of Bowland, Arnside & Silverdale and the Leighton Moss RSPB nature reserve.

The southern route snakes towards the west of the county and passes through Blackburn, Burnley and Chorley.

Bay Cycleway

The Bay Cycle Way is an 80 mile cycle path that stretches from Walney Island to Glasson Dock. The path hugs the coastline for most of the route, offering far reaching views across Morecambe Bay. If you take on the entire route in one go, it will take around 7 hours to complete, so, we recommend splitting it into smaller rides. You’ll want plenty of time to appreciate the spectacular scenery and stop for a well earned refreshment break along the way.

A number of popular attractions can be found on the route including Conishead Priory, Morecambe’s Art Deco Hotel and the pretty village of Cartmel. If you’re lucky you might even catch a glimpse of some of the local wildlife as the trail passes through various habitats. There are often seals at Walney and rare birds such as ospreys and red kites flying high above.

The majority of the Bay Cycle way is flat making it an excellent choice for novice cyclists or visitors with younger children. It comprises of quiet roads, canal tow paths, greenways and promenades and you’re never too far a way from a toilet or cafe!
