The Encounter Festival, established in 2015 as a legacy of the famous Preston Guild celebrations, has become a hallmark event. It aims to deliver a wide array of performances, along with cultural experiences for all to enjoy.

The Encounter Festival presents free outdoor theatre shows, games, and live music at various locations across Preston City Centre. It’s an opportunity for attendees to soak up the lively atmosphere and indulge in a wide array of performances and entertainment. Notable performers in the line-up include Betty Brown Bags, who showcase traditional folk plays; WILD, popular for impressive stunts inspired by animal movements; and Family Catwalk Extravaganza, known for their exceptional dances and engaging lip-sync competitions.

Local heroes will also be featured on the Community and Traditions Stage outside the Guild Hall. This platform aims to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the local community while also recognising and appreciating all the individuals who have contributed to making a difference in Preston.

Torchlight Procession

The iconic Torchlight Procession at the festival will showcase a dazzling spectacle, with 300 community group participants parading through Preston City Centre by torchlight. The event will also feature over 100 fantastic bands and dancers, as well as large puppets crafted with the participation of community members, taking to the streets of Preston illuminated by torchlight.

The festival will take place at various locations in Preston city centre, including the Flag Market, Winckley Square Gardens, and The MET. Many events are free to attend and do not require booking. It’s advisable to check the event details before attending to make the most of the festival experience.
