Weekend Break at Lancaster – 3 Day Sightseeing Itinerary

Considering a stay at Moss Wood Caravan Park in Lancashire, but not sure where to visit during your weekend break? To help you plan your days out from the park, we’ve compiled a 3-day sightseeing itinerary for your holiday in Lancaster. It includes some of our favourite attractions and places to eat and drink.
Day 1
Arrive at Moss Wood from 2pm to maximise your holiday in Lancaster. Settle in at the park and explore the range of facilities on offer. We have two great walking areas on-site – our woodland walk and nature trail. They’re the perfect place to stretch your legs after a long journey. Spend some time appreciating the gorgeous wild blooms and keep an eye out for the fascinating wildlife that habitats the area.
If you are a keen angler, consider heading straight to our private coarse fishing lake. The lake is well-stocked with carp, rudd and tench, and set in beautiful grounds. Spend the afternoon enjoying the peace and quiet while you reel in your catches.
Dinner
After a busy afternoon setting up your caravan and exploring Moss Wood’s picturesque grounds, you’ll have worked up an appetite. Venture outside and have a meal at Merchants 1688. The pub is situated inside a former wine merchant’s cellar and has delicious freshly prepared meals that are lovingly prepared using local ingredients. They have a great selection of beers and cask ales, many sourced from Britain’s best local brewers.
Day 2
Enjoy a home cooked breakfast on-site, before heading into Lancaster to begin your day. Start the morning with a 2-hour guided tour around Lancaster. During the tour you will learn about the city’s fascinating history dating back to the Roman times. The guide will take you to important landmarks such as Lancaster Castle, The Priory. and The Quayside Almshouses. The tour will enable you to gain a deeper knowledge of the remarkable background of these historical buildings.
Lunch
For lunch, try Buccelli’s, known for their authentic Italian food, and an award finalist in the ‘Italian Awards” four times in a row! If Italian food isn’t your thing, you could consider eating at Sydney’s, where you can enjoy a great atmosphere and delightful food to keep you fuelled for the rest of the day.
Afternoon
After a fulfilling lunch, enjoy some free time perusing the independent shops, before walking to Lancaster Brewery. You’ll get a behind the scenes look at how the magic is made as they brew and bottle their multi-award winning craft ales. You can even sample some to bring home! Pre-booking is essential.
If you’re staying in Lancaster for the evening, we recommend grabbing some dinner here. Enjoy tasty pizzas as you savour a pint (or two)!
Evening
Round the day off with an entertaining performance at the Lancaster Grand Theatre, well known for being one of the oldest theatres in England. The beautiful, grand space hosts an exciting programme of enjoyable performances from musicals to comedy. Enjoy world class acts and impressive architecture.
Alternatively, if you’re looking for a fun night out with your loved ones, consider heading over to the Lancaster Comedy Club. It’s the perfect place to unwind and share a few laughs together to end your night.
Day 3
Morning
Get up early and head to Vicarage Fields, a 20 to 30-minute drive from Moss Wood. Here you will be able to see the remains of Roman Lancaster through a Bath House and Wery Wall. Both are believed to have been the home of an important official.
Lunch
For lunch, consider eating at either Quite Simply French or The Quarterhouse depending on your taste buds. They are both considered among the best restaurants in Lancaster and rated highly on TripAdvisor.
Afternoon
In the afternoon, explore the woodland area at Williamson Park, which is enclosed by beautiful gardens and nature trails. See the impressive Ashton Memorial during your walk and discover more about its cultural and historical significance. Appreciate the architectural beauty and take some pictures to look back on your time here in the future.
On wet weather days you could head to Lancaster Maritime Museum instead. Here you and your family can learn how Lancaster’s inland waterways have influenced and modern day life and shaped the city. The museum reveals the dark history of the transatlantic slave trade. You will also be able to witness artefacts and paintings dating back hundred of years.
Evening
On your final evening, give yourself a break from all the walking and take a lovely Lune Aqueduct Fish and Chip Quiz Cruise where you can appreciate the stunning evening views from Lancaster’s canal. During your 1 hour and 45-minute journey, take your time to appreciate the different corners of Lancaster. Your dinner will consist of freshly made fish and chips from the award-winning Hodgson’s Chippy. There will be an optional entertaining quiz to enjoy with friends and family. Drinks are available to be purchased from the licensed bar throughout the trip.
