David Bellamy Conservation Award Gold

29th September 2016

Moss Wood Caravan Park is a winner of the David Bellamy Conservation Award 2016
Event Date: Thursday 29th September 2016

We are delighted that Moss Wood Caravan Park has again been selected by Professor David Bellamy to receive the David Bellamy Gold Conservation Award. Moss Wood has now won this prestigious accolade every year since its inception in 1996.

Granted only to parks who have demonstrated a sound commitment to the natural world, the David Bellamy Conservation Award scheme is described by Professor Bellamy as the ‘Green Olympics’ – and go only to parks which help protect and enhance the natural environment.

In the past few years, our initiatives have included the planting of hundreds of indigenous trees, bushes and other native plant life. We’ve also created two ‘wildlife corridors’ running the length of the park – all creating a haven for wildlife. In 2016 we planted a range of native and locally sourced plants which provide pollen from the early to late season. This gives pollinators such as bumblebees vital sustenance throughout their most challenging times of year.

Lancashire Tourism Awards

With this announcement coming hot on the heels of yesterday’s news that Moss Wood is a finalist for the 2016 Lancashire Tourism Awards in the Sustainable Tourism category, we are very proud of our commitment to the environment and local wildlife. We intend to build on our strong foundations here to lead the way in Sustainable Tourism in the UK.

As Professor Bellamy commented: “Parks like this are creating wildlife wonderlands, and it’s time they were given well-deserved recognition for their environmental commitment”.

We strongly encourage our guests to get involved too. We run events such as Bat Walks on site to educate people (and have fun!) on local wildlife. We also have ongoing projects which guests and local residents are very welcome to get involved with. This year we have begun monitoring our bumblebee population and reporting back to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust. In 2017 we are set to try our most ambitious project to date – a Wildlife Survey with our guests and local children to capture as much information about the wildlife on our park as possible over a full season!
